Acknowledgements
NCBLA depends on the support and creative energy of our Board members as well as a host of companies and organizations who have so generously donated to our cause. We would like to thank and acknowledge the following groups for their on-going interest and support of our efforts.
Verizon Information Services/NCBLA Partnership
The NCBLA is a literacy consultant for Verizon Information Services (VIS), the "SuperPages." NCBLA President Mary Brigid Barrett, along with well-known actor and Verizon spokesperson James Earl Jones, has served as the keynote speaker at events for Verizon. Her work includes educating employees about literacy in the home and volunteerism. As a result of her involvement employee volunteerism is on the rise at VIS. Other collaborative projects include: public appearances at Verizon funded programs, storytelling sessions, and publication of how-to literacy guides for parents. The NCBLA is currently working with VIS to expand their educational website, www.superpages.com/enlightenme. The website is a fun and safe place for kids to play and learn and includes parent sections written by NCBLA President Mary Brigid Barrett that profile literacy leaders and that offer advice about reading to your children.
Candlewick Press
Candlewick Press, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, publishes outstanding children’s books for readers of all ages. Candlewick Press is 100 percent owned and operated by their employees, making them one of the largest independent publishing companies, not just in the country, but in the world.
The Center for the Book at the Library of Congress
The Center for the Book was established in 1977 to use the resources and prestige of the Library of Congress to promote books, reading, libraries, and literacy. Within the Library, the center is a focal point for celebrating the legacy of books and the printed word. Outside the Library, the center works closely with other organizations to foster understanding of the vital role of books, reading, libraries and literacy in society. On behalf of books and reading, the Center for the Book serves as an advocate, a catalyst, and a source of ideas--both nationally and internationally.
